Venturer Scouts

Venturers

Your Unit, your program. Venturers is where 15 to 18 year olds decide what they want to do, then work out how to make it happen.

What happens at Venturers

Venturers run their own Unit. The Unit Council, made up of Venturers, sets the program, manages the planning and keeps everyone involved. Adult leaders are there as mentors and a safety net.

That means the program is whatever the Unit makes it: hiking and canoeing expeditions, rock climbing, a night of cooking or board games, a service project, or just a good place to switch off from school for a couple of hours.

Working towards the King’s Scout Award

The peak award for Venturers is the King’s Scout Award, one of the most respected youth awards in the country. It recognises sustained effort in adventure, leadership, service and personal growth, and many Venturers work towards it alongside the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

What Venturers get up to

Expeditions

Plan and lead your own journeys on foot, by bike or on the water, and build recognised outdoor skills along the way.

Skills for life

Organising events, managing a budget, running a meeting, first aid. The things that look good on a résumé because they’re real.

Community

Give back through service, including helping out with the younger Sections in the Group.

Mates

A friendship group outside school, plus the chance to meet Venturers from all over at state and national events.

Your first night

There’s no need for a uniform or any special gear to come and try Venturers. Just bring:

  • Yourself, and a friend if you like
  • Enclosed shoes
  • A water bottle
  • An idea for something you’d like to do

Let us know you’re coming so the leaders can look out for you and make sure it’s a good night to visit.
