Scouts

Bigger adventures and more say in how they happen. Scouts is where 11 to 15 year olds plan the trip, pack the gear, cook the dinner and find their own way home.

What happens at Scouts

Scouts is built around the Patrol: a small team of mates led by one of their own. Patrols plan activities together, camp together and look out for each other, with adult leaders there to guide and keep things safe rather than run the show.

Weeknight meetings are where the skills get learned and the plans get made: navigation, first aid, pioneering, cooking on a fire. Weekends and school holidays are where they get put to use.

Working towards the Australian Scout Award

Scouts set their own goals and review how they went. The peak award in the Scout Section is the Australian Scout Award, which brings together outdoor skills, leadership, a personal project and an adventurous journey.

What Scouts get up to

Camps and hikes

From a first overnight hike to multi-day expeditions, Scouts learn to be self-sufficient in the bush.

Outdoor Adventure Skills

Progress through stages in bushwalking, camping, paddling, boating, cycling, vertical, alpine and aquatics.

Leading a team

Every Scout gets the chance to lead, whether that’s a game, a night’s program or a whole Patrol.

Big events

District and Region camps, and for many Scouts the highlight of them all: an Australian Jamboree with thousands of others.

Your first night

There’s no need for a uniform or any special gear to come and try Scouts. Just bring:

  • Comfortable clothes for active games, inside and out
  • Enclosed shoes
  • A water bottle
  • A jumper in the cooler months

Let us know you’re coming so the leaders can look out for you and make sure it’s a good night to visit.
