Three steps to your first adventure

New faces are always welcome, at any time of year. Here’s how it works.

  1. Say hello

Send us a message with the age of whoever’s interested. We’ll point you to the right Section and put you in touch with its leaders.

  2. Come and try

Visit on a meeting night, join in and meet everyone. No uniform needed. It’s the best way to see whether Scouts is a good fit.

  3. Sign up

Loved it? The leaders will walk you through membership with Scouts NSW and getting hold of a uniform.

Common questions

Who can join?

Anyone in the age range. Scouts is open to all genders, backgrounds, cultures, faiths and abilities. You don’t need to have been in a younger Section first, and you can start at any point in the year.

Do we need a uniform straight away?

No. Come in comfortable clothes and enclosed shoes while you’re trying things out. Once you decide to join, the leaders will explain what’s needed and where to get it.

What does it cost?

Fees cover membership of Scouts NSW and the running of our Group, with camps and some activities charged separately. Get in touch for current fees. If cost is a barrier, please talk to us in confidence, as we never want it to be the reason a young person misses out.

Do you meet in the school holidays?

Cubs, Scouts and Venturers meet weekly during NSW school terms. Camps and other activities sometimes run on weekends and in the holidays, and leaders give plenty of notice.

My child has additional needs. Can they still take part?

Yes. Have a chat with the Section leaders before the first night so they can plan to make it a good experience. The program is designed so every young person progresses at their own pace.

Who are the leaders?

Our leaders are volunteers, many of them parents or former Scouts. All complete Scouts NSW training, including child safety, and hold a current Working With Children Check.

Can parents get involved?

Please do. Whether it’s helping on a meeting night, driving to camp, joining the committee or training as a leader, there’s a role to suit whatever time you have.

What about Joeys, for 5 to 8 year olds?

We don’t list a Joey Scout meeting night at the moment. Ask us and we’ll let you know the options nearby.
