About us

A local Group, part of something worldwide

1st Asquith Scout Group gives young people from Asquith and the surrounding suburbs a place to be adventurous, be themselves and be prepared.

Who we are

We’re a community Scout Group run entirely by volunteers, with Sections for Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers.

We belong to Scouts NSW and Scouts Australia, and through them to a worldwide movement of more than 50 million Scouts. That means our young people follow a nationally recognised program, our adult leaders are trained and accredited, and there’s a huge network of camps, activity centres and events to take part in.

Closer to home, we’re simply a friendly bunch of families, leaders and young people who meet each week at the hall on Lords Avenue and get outdoors as often as we can.

How Scouting works

Scouts learn by doing. Each Section uses the same simple cycle: Plan an activity, Do it, then Review what worked and what you’d change. As young people get older they take on more of the planning and leading themselves.

  • Small teams. Young people work in Patrols, so everyone has a role and nobody gets lost in the crowd.
  • Personal progression. Each Scout sets their own goals and moves through the program at their own pace.
  • The outdoors. Nature is the best classroom we know, so that’s where we try to be.
  • Community. Scouts are encouraged to notice what needs doing around them, and to help.

Adult volunteers

Grown-ups have fun here too

Our Group only runs because adults give their time: as uniformed leaders, on the Group committee, or as the parent who’s handy with a trailer. You don’t need any Scouting experience. Scouts NSW provides training, and every adult working with young people holds a Working With Children Check.

If you’ve got a few hours and some enthusiasm, we’d love to hear from you.
